ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE
The Old Bridge was built in 1566 by order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Ottoman architect Mimar Hajrudin, a student of the famous Mimar Sinan, designed the spectacular arch bridge that connects the two sides of the city. Its length of 29 meters and height of 24 meters make it an architectural marvel of its time. The stone from which it is made changes color depending on the time of day, which further adds to its mysticism and beauty.
HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL VALUE
Throughout history, Mostar has been an important trading center, and the Old Bridge is a symbol of this rich heritage. Its role was not only to connect the two banks, but also to unite the cultures, peoples, and civilizations that have passed through and lived in these regions for centuries, just as it does today. The bridge is a symbol of connection and coexistence, which makes it even more significant in the context of Balkan history.

A SYMBOL OF RESISTANCE AND RECONSTRUCTION
During the 1993 war, the Old Bridge was destroyed, causing worldwide grief. However, its reconstruction in 2004 was a major international project using traditional materials and methods. As a result, in 2005, the Old Bridge and the Old Town of Mostar were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, further confirming its importance.
BRIDGE JUMPING
Since ancient times, brave young men have jumped from the bridge into the cold Neretva River, and today it has grown into an international competition that attracts thousands of visitors. The traditional jumps from the Old Bridge into the Neretva River are held every year at the end of July. The first recorded competition was held in 1968, with winners chosen in the head-on and foot-on jump categories. At the last, 458th competition held in July 2024, Vedad Dedić from Zenica won the headbutt category, while Emel Tiro from Mostar was the best in standing jumps.
