Save the date! The third edition of the Night of Fortresses event is coming!
Are you a lover of history and cultural heritage or do you want to get to know it even better? Here is a great opportunity to see one of the most beautiful fortresses, castles, and forts in 8 countries, 4 of which are from the Adria region!
To improve the cultural and tourist offer in cities with established heritage in Europe, and raise awareness of their potential and the importance of valorizing cultural heritage as a generator of cultural tourism development, the Night of Fortresses event was launched, which will be held for the third time this year, on the 10th of May.
The Night of Fortresses event was held for the first time in 2022 in the territory of Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a result of the joint European project FORTITUDE, which today is jointly implemented by: Fortress of Culture Šibenik, City of Banja Luka, City of Karlovac, Municipality of Bar, City of Trebinje and Municipality of Ulcinj.
In recent years, this special night provided the opportunity to view and promote more than 45 fortification sites in 6 countries: Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Serbia. This year, Slovenia and Ukraine joined them in this goal as well!
In Croatia, you can visit the Fortress in Osijek, the Revelin Fortress and the St. John’s Fortress in Dubrovnik, Kastel Zrinski in Brod na Kupi, Han Vrana in Pakoštani, House of Istrian Castles in Momjan, Kastel Morosini-Grimani in Svetvinčenat, Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities in Dubrovnik, Heritage Museum Ogulin, Forte Fortress in Zadar, Klis Fortress, Kamerlengo Fortress, Makarska City Museum, Nehaj Fortress in Senj, Old Town Novigrad na Dobri in Duga Resa, Pustograd on the island of Pašman, Old Town Ozalj, Vrgorac Antiquities, Brod Fortress in Slavonski Brod, Imperial Fortress Srđ, Hreljin Old Town, Saint Michael Fortress Preko, Tabor Castle, Trakošćan Castle, Korčula Old Town, Old Town Fortress in Varaždin, St. Nicolas in Šibenik, Pejačević Castle in Našice and the Old Town of Dubovac in Karlovac.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, you can visit the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje and Kastel Fortress in Banja Luka. In Montenegro, the Forte Mare Fortress in Herceg Novi, Danilovgrad, the Old Town in Ulcinj, and the Old Town in Bar were on the list, and in Slovenia there is also the Rajhenburg Castle.
In Serbia, the Leskovac National Museum participates as part of the Night of Fortresses event, in Romania it is the Rasnov Fortress and the Saxon Church, in the Czech Republic the city of Terezin, and in Ukraine, the Mezhybizh State Historical and Cultural Reserve.
